Massage for Chronic Pain

Are you living with chronic pain? You are not alone. The Institute of Medicine estimates there are 116 million people in America living with chronic pain conditions.

While the real sensation of pain is in the physical body, your experience of pain is also shaped by your thoughts and emotions about those sensations. Massage therapy can be very helpful in dealing the full experience of pain.

Many of my clients have had great success with lessening pain and increasing their ability to move, work and play with greater freedom. If your are recovering from an injury, massage therapy lengthens and separates adhered muscles allowing for better circulation and improved lymph flow for faster recovery and improved overall function.

Therapeutic massage complements the work of Physical Therapists, Chiropractors, and Acupuncturists. Even if you stretch or do yoga you can still benefit from regular massage.

If you live with chronic pain you are living in a state that is similar to being stuck, the stress response of fight, flight or freeze. This lowers your ability to heal. Chronic pain conditions can create the following physical and emotional symptoms which can be helped with massage therapy:

  • reduced immune function
  • fatigue
  • headaches
  • sleep disturbances
  • poor concentration
  • increased muscle tightness or tension
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • decreased energy
